Cort Dogniez Education + Culture + History
“We Are All Treaty People”
Cort Dogniez is an extraordinary Storyteller, captivating educator, and expert Presenter on the Numbered Treaties in Canada. He delivers thought provoking workshops and messages to audiences of all ages, engaging them to understand the perspectives of First Nation & Metis people, while helping them grasp the importance of treaties and how they relate to us all.
Cort’s workshops explore the building blocks of treaties and provide greater respect and understanding for their importance. He is one of only a few people certified to provide the Office of the Treaty Commission (OTC) training. Cort has dedicated his career to promoting diversity, focusing on the aboriginal cultures and perspectives.
Cort`s talented story-telling captivate his audience drawing them into the legendary stories given to him by his grandmother. Whether he is sharing stories of the land from Elders and Knowledge Keepers or helping you see the world through his grandmother`s eye, Cort is sure to awaken you to the mystical teachings of the Indigenous people.
Cort has been greatly influenced by the spirit, strength and determination of his Kokhum “Grandmother” Clara Delorme,. As a proud Métis man from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; he has the unique talent to make great sense of the expression “We are all Treaty People”. He has worked as a facilitator for the OTC since 2010.
A graduate of the Indian Teacher Education Program, he possesses a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Post Graduate diploma in Native Studies. Cort is currently working for Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools as the Métis Education Program Leader. His role is to provide leadership in developing the first provincial school to holistically honour the inclusion of Métis content and perspectives from Pre K to Grade 8.
His teaching career has spanned thirty-one years with Saskatoon Public Schools as a middle year’s classroom teacher with the last eight years as Coordinator of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Education. In this role Cort supported teachers in the inclusion of Métis and First Nations content and perspectives while providing leadership in the division to develop culturally responsive schools. He is currently working as an education consultant in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
Cort was proud to be honoured with the METSI Heart of the Métis Award in 2005 recognizing his contributions to promoting Métis culture throughout his career. He also received the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Award in 2010 in the category of Aboriginal Education. He was honoured to receive his spirit name and eagle feather in 2008. He recently received the AWASIS Special Subject Council Honouree Award in 2013.

Cort was fortunate to have grown up listening to the stories of his kohkom, Elders and other Knowledge Keepers. Cort shares a variety of stories from his Cree and Métis heritages depending on the season and audiences. Stories are meant to tell our history, provide insight into our worldview, explain natural phenomena and of course to entertain and share our sense of humour.

This workshop provides teachers an opportunity to shape their learning process. We are all on a journey but do not have the same starting points.
This workshop creates an environment that is safe and respectful so teachers can ask the most basic of questions without feeling judged or foolish.

This workshop provides a foundation to the Treaty process in Canada. We will explore the building blocks of treaty but also recognize the worldviews that shape the understandings that weave through the treaties. We are all Treaty people but do we understand our own treaty rights? This workshop benefits Educators helping them make curricular connections with Treaty perspectives. This workshop would also benefit any organization that wants to promote anti-racist, anti-oppressive perspectives through informed and knowledgeable citizens.
